Death of Four Leading Mysoreans

The month of December 2002 saw the demise of four important personalities of Mysore. The senior citizens who passed away in Mysore are veteran freedom fighter and Gandhian Prof.B.R. Pranesha Rao, Jainologist Dr. M.D.Vasantharaj, Advocate T.V.Krishna Rao and Prof. A.N.Rao.

Gandhian Pranesha Rao died on December 26 at the Kamakshi Hospital after a brief illness. Rao, who was connected with various Gandhian institutions, was associated with rehabilitation of handicapped persons also. He was formerly the Professor of Economics at the Sarada Vilas College.

A veteran scholar in Jainology, Prof. Vasantharaj, 75, passed away on December 27. A resident of Kuvempunagar, he is survived by two sons and two daughters, besides wife Rathnavali. A former Professor and Head of Department of Jainology in Mysore and Madras Universities, Dr. Vasantharaj was awarded doctorate for his critical evaluation of "Trivikrama's Prakrut Shabdhanushasana". He had authored a number of books in Sanskrit. He was a recipient of several awards including the Prakrut Jnana Bharathi award.

Leading advocate T.V.Krishna Rao, 85, who was associated with a number of institutions in the city, died on December 30. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter. He was the President of Mysore Bar Association, National Institute of Engineering, Rotary Mysore, and Shankar Mutt.

On the same day (December 30), the death occurred of Prof. A.N.Rao at the age of 71. He is survived by wife, a son and five daughters. Capt. Rao was formerly the Assistant Professor of Mathematics at the National Institute of Engineering (NIE). He had also served as NCC Officer. He had suffered a brain hemorrhage and was hospitalized.
