Calling Mysore? Add '2' to your Phone Number

If you are calling your friends and relatives in Mysore over phone, remember to add '2' to the phone number you are dialing.

Telephones in Mysore have seven digits now with the Mysore Telecom District switching over to the all-India seven-digit telephone numbers. As a result, one has to prefix digit '2' to the existing telephone numbers, if one is dialing any number in Mysore and in some other parts of the Mysore Telecom District. The State-owned Bharath Sanchar Nigam Ltd. (BSNL) has proposed to have seven-digit basic telephone numbers in the entire country beginning with '2' and Mysore falls in line with that proposal.

Accordingly, the phone numbers of all basic telephones lines in Mysore City have been changed. Changes in telephone numbers have been effected in Nanjangud and H.D.Kote also. However, telephone numbers in Chamarajanagar, Kollegal, Gundlupet, Hunsur, Periayapatna, K.R.Nagar (Krishnaraja Nagar) taluks continue with six digit numbers for the present. The seven-digit numbers will be effected in those places subsequently.

Apart from Mysore Telecom District, Hubli, Mandya and Mangalore Telecom Districts have already implemented the new 7-digit mode. All districts in Karnataka will switch over to seven digit mode by June-end, say Telecom officials.
