Veteran Cine Actor Rajanand Dead

Veteran stage and film actor Rajajand, 73, died in a private hospital in Mysore on August 25. He is survived by wife, a daughter and a son. The actor was ailing for the last few months and he died of kidney failure.

Like many senior actors, Rajanand also made his debut on the stage and later moved on to the cine world and became famous. Born in Haranahalli village of Arsikere taluk, he had acted in as many as 318 Kannada films and one Telugu film. Hmaiden film was the famous "Chakratheertha" in 1967 and the last "Bayalu Deepa" in 1998. Despite his famous roles and popularity, Rajajand's last days were full of misery with continuous illness and financial hardship.

Recognising his talent, the Karnataka Government had conferred the Rajyotsava award in 1991 and the film industry award in 2003.

Mysore-based film artistes Chetan Rama Rao, Lokesh, Pavithra Lokesh, M.P.Shankar and Jr. Narasimharaju were among those who paid their last respects.
