50th year of Ramothsava Celebrations

Sri Rama Seva Mandali of Sri Shankaranarayana Swamy Temple in Chamundipuram, Mysore, has drawn up an elaborate programme to mark the 50th year of Ramothsava celebrations.

The 50th year Mahasamrajya Pattabhisheka of Lord Sri Rama will be celebrated from April 15 to 26 at the Temple. Sri Rama Taraka Mantra Yajna is the main feature of the 12-day-long celebrations. The Sri Rama Taraka Mantra written by devotees will be offered to Lord Sri Rama on the concluding Maha Samrajya Pattabhisheka on April 24. On that day, there will be a procession in palanquin (Pallakki Uthsava) of Sri Rama with Anjaneya in the main streets of the area, mass feeding, Shayanothsava in the evening, felicitations to Pandits, day-long Akhanda Bhajan and cultural programmes.

The celebrations will commence on April 15 with the installation of the Main Kalasha and 64 subsidiary Kalashas by Vedic scholars who will undertake worship and Yajna programmes. Twenty-four scholars will render a reading of Valmiki Ramayana for nine days. Daily there will be Ramataraka Mantra Japa and Homa. Ekadasha Vaara Rudrabhisheka, Navagraha Japa, Surya Namaskara will also be conducted. There will be daily separate Homas for Gods Navagraha, Ganapathi, Durga, Lalitha, Chandi, Rudra, Maha Sudarshana, Nakshatra, Medha Dhakshina Murthy, Saraswathi and Mrutyunjaya. Recitations from Bhagavatha, Mahabharata, Dashopanishat, Bhagavad Gita, and Vedas will be done by scholars. Sahasranama Archana, Ashtavadhana will be also conducted during the period. On April 19 "Seetha Kalyana" will be celebrated with Kalyanothsava. Apart from these programmes, cultural programmes like discourses, music, and Harikathe are also being drawn up. Heads of some religious Mutts are also taking part in the celebrations.

The expenditure for the celebrations are expected to cost around Rs.16 lakhs and devotees can sponsor various programmes, Poojas and Homas by sending remittances to Savings Bank Account No. 31004, State Bank of Mysore, Vidyaranyapuram, Mysore, India.

The Mandali has been conducting Ramothsava every year since 50 years at the Temple which has been consecrated by Sringeri Jagadguru Sri Chandrashekara Bharathi Swamiji.
