Women in Small Enterprise form Organization

Women heading small industries and businesses in Mysore have formed an organization. They have come together under the banner of the Mysore Chamber of Commerce & Industry to form 'Women in Small Enterprise" (WISE).

The WISE has a 15-member managing committee led by Uma Jayanna of Jayson Stationary. The office-bearers are Uma Jayanna (President), Geethashri K.S.Rao, Sreenidhi Murthy (Vice-Presidents), V. Urmeela (Hon.Secretary), Malini Srinivasan (Hon.Treasurer), Gayathri Keshava Rao, Suriya Ganesh, Poongkulai, Kalpana Chandru, R. Bharathi, M.R.Malathi, S. Padmini Shivanna, K.R.Vidya Rao, Rohini and Surekha V.Kumar (Managing Committee members). About 40 members have enrolled as members so far.

The objectives of the WISE are to conduct professional training programme to improve women's professional and personal competencies for running a business, organize trade fairs to promote products and services, to impart guidance and help women realize the endless opportunities. It will extend its support to all women - housewives showing an inclination towards business, fresh graduates seeking guidance, women already established in business, thus emphasizing its support to entrepreneurs, says WISE Secretary V.Urmeela of Raman Computer Centre.

"Here, we women will give ourselves a common platform to successfully implement business strategies, channelize ourselves in expanding our business and contacts. We will focus on empowering other women with an aspiration of bringing out entrepreneurial spirit in them," she says.

In this direction, the month-old WISE has started conducting programmes. It conducted a lecture programme by T.P.Jagadish, Director, RUDSET, on "Avenues for self-employment", a visit to leading food manufacturing unit, MTR and garments manufacturing unit, Sonal Garments in Bangalore to give a business exposure to women, a presentation programme on "Corporate-social responsibilities" and a talk on "Banking loans, latest facilities and opportunities for women entrepreneurs".
